A Tricultural CELEBRATION
After a history of discrepancies and conflicts between China, Taiwan, and Korea, our brand aims to showcase our three cultures coming together and creating a fashion collection that champions the celebration of our cultures intermingling, coming together, and creating a collective whole. Our collective body is the culmination of our brand, MWM, which stands for Maggie, Willow, and Madison (Patty). Originating from varying cultural backgrounds, we’ve joined together to create a collection of garments, products, and materials that reflects numerous traditional aspects of each of our cultures.
Our collection of garments and fashion products will reflect our 3 cultures theme and research of natural dye materials. We will include a total of 5 tops, 5 bottoms, 4 dresses, and 6 purses that can be interchanged in a prototype dress up game focusing on themes from China, Korea and Taiwan. We define the collective body to be a collection of our cultures, personal experiences, and perspectives. This is the collected body of us― Patty, Maggie, and Willow.
Through our prototyped dress up game, we are creating a digital space to allow the user interaction with our different Asian cultures to understand the similar and different relationships between the three. By joining the joy of gaming and technology with the art of dress, we have created an interactive experience between cultures, fashion, and games.
Maggie was born and raised in Hsinchu, Taiwan, and has lived in Taiwan for 19 years. But she started to recognize that people don’t know much about Taiwanese culture and often got confused with other countries. So as Maggie, she attended international schools ever since middle school, so through this project, she gets to dive deeper into Taiwanese culture and its fashion history.
Willow is an American born Chinese who has lived in Boca Raton, Florida all her life. The way she connects to her Chinese heritage is by creating art that allows her to understand the culture, and make it more personal. Some of her recent work has been inspired by the Chinese culture and this project has been a continuation, and expansion, of the related cultures that are next to China.
Madison(Patty) was born in Chuncheon, South Korea, and she was adopted when she was eight months old to move to America. Patty loves to educate herself on different aspects of Korean culture and history to immerse herself and gain a deeper, richer understanding of where she is from.
